Memcache::pconnect() or Memcache::connect() ?

Did you miss the flap about this on Slashdot a couple of months back? 
Switching databases was one of the things he tried that improved 
performance for this application.  It's not relevant to the question of 
how much difference persistent connections make though.  He shows 
benchmarks for that on each database.
