The "data corruption" that Andrew was talking about happened to me as well 2
or so years ago. I found that it was not memcached, but rather the PHP
memcache module... it was causing the corruption somehow.

Changing the PHP memcache module to simple socket-request code fixed it.
Since then that code has been fixed.
