Memcache class not found when accessed over internet

It's quite common (at least in Debian/Ubuntu) to have a separate  
php.ini file for CLI/CGI and apache SAPIs. Are you sure that memcache  
is enabled in your apache php.ini? Look in /etc/php5/cli and /etc/ 
php5/apache2.

While we're here, there was mention a while ago that the memcache in  
pecl  would be updated for consistent hashing - it doesn't seem to  
have happened. Any ideas when it might?
