how different is OpenID from SXIP?

I'm not sure if this is completely accurate? My understanding of
dix/Sxip/SXIP was that a homesite will return one of perhaps several
URL-based identifiers. That URL may or may not have the same domain as
the homesite. If this is the case, then you can have an identifier be
the URL of your blog even if your blog is not hosted at your homesite.
Perhaps Dick or John could shed some light on this topic.
