Just for fun I ran this on a Linux kernel and here is the result:
max alloc =3D 303 M, glibc is 2.3.3_pre20040207, gcc is 3.3.3, kernel:
2.6.3-gentoo-r2. This is my desktop.
(another box)
max alloc =3D 1861 M, glibc is glibc-2.3.2-r9 (gentoo revision), gcc is
gcc-3.3.2-r5 (gentoo revision), kernel: 2.4.22-gentoo-r7. idle server
On a machine with 256mb physical ram:
max alloc =3D 642 M, glibc is 2.3.3_pre20040207, gcc is 3.3.3, kernel:
2.6.3-gentoo-r2. idle server
--=20
