'C' client for memcached?

I was assuming making memcached would have an accompanying .a or .so
library built for any 'C' program to leverage.  Is this not available?  I
see clients for interpreted languages, but I don't recognize any of these
as being callable from a native application.

Am I missing something?  (most likely)
