Sorry.  I was making my point in round about way.  I totally agree.  I see
memcached as a backend technology.

It is easy to underestimate the complexity of HTTP.  At first glance it
looks simple until you actually sit down to implement it.  My feeling,
again, is if you want HTTP in a caching technology, you are better
starting with something like squid.
