memcached memory prob

im running memcached with: memcached -d -p 11211 -u nobody -c 1024 -m 4096

yet after the 4gb limit is reached, memcached continues to use memory,
starts to use swap, ends up using all available memory and eventually
crashes

anybody run into similar problems?


im running version 1.1.12 on top of rhel4 and using the php memcache pecl v
2.0.0 extension as the api
