While it's possible that cache configuration changed recently, not that
long ago Wikipedia had close to 30GB of data in Tugela instances across
the cluster. It's rock solid and generally very fast, though not
optimized for large (i.e. file-size) binary blobs. You can google
through the wikitech-l archives for Domas Mituzas' original announcement
of Tugela where he posted some performance numbers, which were fully on
par with memcached proper.
