Lighttpd will have this feature as of 1.5. There is a 1.5 beta (might be 
called 1.4.12pre) available right now, so you should be able to test it 
if you want. Read 
http://blog.lighttpd.net/articles/2006/07/22/x-sendfiles-new-friend-x-rewrite 
for more information about how to set it up. It isn't as flexible as 
perlbal in its reproxying, but is likely faster.
