I've heard arguments that ~ isn't on all international keyboard layouts.
(not that it matters since users won't type it, but still....)

But this is all up for consumers to decide.  In the end I'm only going to
be pushing for URLs for LiveJournal and other SixApart products.  Between
auto-complete and a FireFox plugin to find/fill/trust sites' openid_url
fields, I don't think URLs are cumbersome.

Let's leave this conversation for later.
