The most broadly (and interoperably) implemented simple "profile"
format is vCard RFC2426.
One can reference a vCard (.vcf) file by URL. Some folks prefer to
embed their profile information right there visibly on their blog.
hCard, which is a 1:1 representation of vCard in XHTML, was designed
for just this purpose.
