Microsoft run Passport, an alternative single-sign-on technology. Why
would they EVER support a competitor? They have zero incentive to do that.
And then you have the billion and one other providers whose admins can't
or won't do anything progressive soon - designing a system to be
deployable en-masse using interim solutions is sound engineering, even if
the makes the system less academically pure.
