Confused on scaling memcached & persistant connections (w/ the PECL client)

Yeah, like I said earlier, I have not read this whole thread.  We set 
ours to 1024 and run memcached on any server we run apache on and then 
some.  We are running it on a 2.6 kernel and have not seen any 
connection issues.
