Hi all,
As mentioned in my previous mail, a project called Spectaclar is just
now getting off of the ground, which aims to align user management and
permissions management in open source applications. Since the mission
statement and approach is similar to OpenID, it may be most helpful to
talk about how it differs (I think) from OpenID.
1. The primary focus of Spectaclar is on authorization, not
authentication. My understanding is that OpenID is focused on
authenication now and for the forseeable future.
2. OpenID is simultaneously building a community and a technology/set
of technologies. Spectaclar is trying to build the community and the
knowledge base, and will be very conservative about recommending
specific technology to the application writers. Instead, Spectaclar
will be a place where those app writers come and see how their
application fits into the ecosystem.
You can get the whole "About Spectaclar" spiel here:
http://spectaclar.org/wiki/Spectaclar:About
If I have misconceptions about OpenID, I'd appreciate the clarification.
Thanks
Rob
