Non-HTML based consumers?

Are there any plans for using OpenID for things other than web sites,
such as to associate IM accounts with a metacontact, or to link a
presence in an online game to an OpenID? If so, how would the consumer
URLs work out for such applications? Thanks for the help... just trying
to understand a new tech.
