Consider the thread I started about the memcached roadmap your
opening.

Would anyone want to do a preliminary requirements-a-thon or hackathon
over IRC?  

This might be difficult because of time-zone differences.  Perhaps we
need something like 24 Hours of Le Mans, replacing cars with code, pit
stops with compilers :)
