mogilefsd does not start anymore

It sounds like these are related.  I'd wager you built your DBD::mysql
against an old version of DBI?  ;)  But seriously, this doesn't sound
like a MogileFS problem per se.  Try writing a test script that just
does database work, a few selects or something, completely outside of
MogileFS and see if that works?
